Popular Colors For Kitchens - Which One Will Work Best For You?
The kitchen area is normally where a number of people spend a good part of our time. We prepare food and eat in our kitchens, and while we entertain that is typically where the majority of people find themselves congregating. While redecorating your own kitchen it's important to know what feeling you'd like this area to have and how to attain that feeling. The shades you choose can go a long way to obtaining the look you want. So what are some popular colors for kitchens?
Many kitchens are decorated in green or yellow. Green is usually a relaxing color and offers a sense of renewal and growth. Using this color as part of your kitchen area may perhaps give the area a relaxing freshness as you loosen up after having a lengthy day to enjoy your favorite foods. Yellow is a warmer color and many individuals feel more energetic and more happy inside a yellow area. If you want a boost of energy this might be the color you're looking for.
Blue may also be a very good kitchen paint color, although it presents a cooler sensation which some might find to be uninviting in a area which is meant for family time and nourishment. I personally prefer to paint using a warmer, more neutral color and use blue as an accent color. Doing this the room remains comfortable and welcoming, plus the blue presents a little bit of contrast.
One color that's not usually used when decorating kitchens is red. While it's the color of passion, it also stimulates your desire for food. You might believe that is a good thing, particularly if you have fussy eaters, but if you are attempting to lose weight or get in shape this may not be the greatest selection for your home. It is usually hard enough to manage our portions with out the color of the walls subtley telling us to go back for seconds! That being said, it could make a fantastic highlight color and could be brought in with hand towels, place mats and perhaps as part of your window coverings.
These are simply basic suggestions. In picking your kitchen paint color, think about your habits and the foods that you consume. Do you prepare and consume a lot of hot and spicy meals? Then maybe warmer colors such as red or rust will be ideal for your kitchen. Before choosing, put a bit of thought into just how you want to feel when you're eating and entertaining.
Larger kitchens with a lot of natural light can effectively pull off a darker wall color without making the area appear small and oppressive. More compact rooms or kitchens without very much natural light or few windows would likely do well having a light paint color using a couple of darker accents should you wish.
As with any home decor suggestions, these are simply just guidelines. There are so many decorating ideas for kitchens - the only limit is your imagination. Inside your own house you ought to choose colors that you enjoy and which you really feel comfortable with. If green or yellow simply aren't your thing, and neutrals are too dull, you shouldn't be reluctant to follow your heart!
