Extend The Lifetime Of Your Carpet Using A Carpet Cleaning Machine

In order to keep your carpets looking fresh and clean, it's important to vacuum them on a regular basis. However, even if you vacuum on a regular basis, your carpets will begin to look a bit tired and worn over time. The reason for this is that vacuuming is only able to remove loose dirt from the top layers of the carpet. Deeply ground in dirt which is trapped in the carpet will not usually be removed by even the most efficient vacuum cleaner. Spills, if not quickly attended to, can often become slightly sticky when they dry and act as a trap for dirt and dust.

Clearly vacuuming on a regular and frequent basis is a good way to prevent dirt and dust becoming trapped in your carpet in the first place. The ideal scenario is that the dust and dirt is removed before it can become ground in and trapped. Heavy traffic areas - the floor near doors, hallways, corridors etc. - should be cleaned at least twice weekly. If you have young children, pets, or both, then you may even need to do this three times a week. This should prove an effective way to prevent dust and dirt being collected and trapped in the carpet.

However, some penetration of dirt deep into the fibres of your carpet is unavoidable. Wet shoes, accidental spills and heavy traffic will, over time grind dirt and dust into your carpet and it will appear shabby and dull. As this dirt cannot be removed by vacuuming, a different cleaning method must be used.

One of the best ways to remove this trapped dirt is to deep clean your carpet from time to time using a carpet washer. This uses water and detergent to loosen the dirt and then removes it. Depending upon your circumstances - the amount of traffic over your carpet, whether or not you have pets and small children - a thorough clean using a carpet washer every 3 to 6 months will go a long way towards keeping your carpet looking fresh, removing odours and helping to extend the life of your carpet.

As with normal vacuum cleaners, carpet washers are available in a variety of different styles and, as with standard vacuum cleaners, cylinder and upright models are the most common. You can rent carpet washers in DIY stores and larger supermarkets. You can even make use of the services of a professional carpet cleaning company who will come to your home and clean your carpets for you should you wish. You can also buy your own carpet washer, and the price of these cleaners is relatively low these days, so that may be an attractive option for many. If you do elect to buy your own cleaner then you will be able to use it to deal with any accidental spills and stains before they have a chance to become ground in and established.

Regardless of whether you opt to buy or rent, using a carpet washer to thoroughly clean your carpets on a regular basis will extend the carpet's life and more than cover the hire cost or purchase price. Your carpets will have a fresh, clean appearance and be odour free. Especially important if you have young children of an age where they are prone to crawling around on the floor, the environment will be considerably more hygienic.
