Saving Water, Initial Step Towards Green Living
By now, everyone of us are well aware that water is a vital need. However, a lot of people waste water without even knowing what this may lead to. You might see water going down Copper kitchen sinks or Copper sinks in your bathroom, and you might not even notice the loss. The reality is that the waste of water can lay an impact on the environment. Today, we mainly stress upon protecting our limited resources, and saving water is the initial measure that should be taken to do that.
You may wonder as to why we need to save the water in the first place. A lot of people have the routine of keeping the tap running while they brush or shave, while they wash the dishes, and whenever they are watering the plants. This routine dates back to those people’s childhood as back then they had neglected the need of saving water. Water did not finish back then, so why will it finish in the upcoming time? If the Universe is a closed system, how can water escape it if we are neglectful about it? The answer is a bit tricky.
Wasting water does not directly affect the environment. Yet when you are using more water than required that would mean that you are pumping more water from the reservoirs. This obviously needs energy, and this energy comes from different sources. Wasting water will thus not be energy efficient because wasting water will also mean that you are wasting energy. Meanwhile, the water purification plants will have to operate more if you are wasting the water.
There are many easy steps for you to protect water and take another step towards green living. Now this is not only restricted to closing the tap while you are brushing your teeth or shaving. Read on to find some more ways of saving water and energy:
• When you are washing the dishes using your hands, it is not essential that you always keep the tap running while you rinse. What you can do is fill a container with wash water and the other with rinse water. This way you can save water that could have been wasted while you are rinsing the dishes.
• When you are thinking of flooring outside your home, go for shrubs and groundcovers rather than turfs on steep slopes and isolated strips.
• Even though evaporation of water will not be a problem to the environment, sometimes you will have to take care of it so that you do not have to use water again and again for the same purpose. For example, when you are watering the plants, the water may evaporate and you will have to water it again. For this, you should water your lawn in the morning or afternoon when the temperatures are relatively lower. Also when you are watering steep areas where water rapidly washes away, a great idea is to water them in short intervals so that plants have more time for absorption.
• Use showers rather than long baths. You might not need as much water for a shower in contrast with the water you use to fill up the tub.
